Nutrient Rich, Eco-Friendly Calathea Soil
☑ A well-draining soil for calathea care made with Earth Positive ingredients (no peat moss, pumice, or perlite)
☑ Supports good moisture and nutrient retention
☑ Contains abundant organic matter
☑ The best soil to stimulate new plant growth for calatheas
Vegan Compost
We use aged and plant-based compost to provide essential plant nutrients (like nitrogen and phosphorus) for your calathea plant.
The organic matter in the compost also helps with aeration, drainage, and preventing root rot.
Plus, it minimizes the need for synthetic fertilizers — which can harm soil microbes and pH levels when used excessively.
Carbon-Negative Biochar
Biochar is the star of Rosy’s calathea potting mix! It enhances aeration, drainage, nutrient retention, and plant root development.
What’s more?
Biochar is carbon negative.
For every ton of biochar produced, three tons of carbon is removed from the emission cycle.
That’s why it’s a better alternative to activated charcoal and unsustainable soil additives like peat moss, pumice, and coco coir.
Root Boosting Mycorrhizae
Rosy’s calathea soil contains plant-friendly fungi known as mycorrhizae (mahy-kuh-rahy-zee).
The benefits?
The fungi enhance water and nutrient access for the plant’s root system.
They also create glomalin, a gum-like substance that further locks in the moisture and nutrients calathea plants need.
Step 1: Pre-Moisten
We recommend moistening Rosy’s calathea soil before use for the best results.
Place your desired amount of the potting soil in a container and spray with water until it releases a few drops when pressed.
Step 2: Pot or repot
Choose a pot with drainage holes (on the side or underside) and fill it 1/3 with pre-moistened Rosy potting soil.
Step 3: Plant
Release your calathea from its current container and remove any soil debris around the plant’s roots.
Next, center the plant in your new pot and fill the remaining space with pre-moistened Rosy soil. Leave an inch of space at the top for easy watering.
Step 4: Water
For the first watering, water your calathea from the top and allow the excess water to drain.
For future watering, we recommend bottom watering. You can water from the top occasionally to flush excess salts and minerals.
Rosy’s entire supply chain has a net negative carbon footprint — from manufacturing to delivery.
How do we do this?
We carefully select the most sustainable packaging and shipping options. Plus, we use low-carbon and carbon-negative ingredients (like biochar) for our potting mix.
In fact, each bag of Rosy soil captures 2 kg of CO2 from the carbon emissions cycle!
